European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Stanton Ironworks, a pipe manufacturer in Ilkeston, is to cut 220 of the 440 jobs at the plant. The firm is run by Saint-Gobain Pipelines. The factory makes iron pipes for the water industry, but the company said this work would be moved overseas. It blamed a steady decline in the market, along with major increases in the cost of steel for the move. In a statement, Saint-Gobain said some departments would stay at the site but about 220 jobs would have to go as part of the new plans. The statement added: 'We very much regret any job losses and our priority is to support our employees at a difficult time.' Production is expected to end in April 2007. A spokesman from workers' union Amicus, said the latest round of cuts brought the number of recent job losses in the region to more than 1,000.
