Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In November 2006, the telecommunications provider Debitel announced its plans to cut 100 jobs until July 2007. On 7 March 2007, Debitel stated in a press release that it would cut an additional 189 jobs until the end of 2007 as part of a formerly announced internal restructuring programme. Debitel wants to save 30 to 50 million Euro by reducing its workforce. The job cutting is part of an internal restructuring process lending more weight to its core business. Debitel is seeking to acquire new mobile phone contract customers. The above mentioned savings shall be used for additional investments in 2007. Debitel currently employs 1,289 people in Germany.
