Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In November 2006, Coindu Romania, a producer of parts for the automotive industry, carried out an investment of 25 million EUR in a factory located in the Curtici-Arad Free Trade Zone. As a result, the company hired about 800 people by July 2007. 'We have 320 employees at the moment, but we hope the number will increase to 700 by the end of 2007. By the end of 2008, when the full capacity is expected to be reached, we estimate to have over 1,200 employees', stated general director of Coindu Romania, Jose Carlos de Barros e Sensa, in November 2006. The estimated turnover of the company in 2006 was 5 million EUR. On 17 July 2007, representatives of the company estimate that the firm will double its turnover within the next three years from 7.5 million EUR in 2007 to 18 million EUR in 2010. Also, according to the general manager of Coindu Romania, the number of employees will reach 1,200 by the begining of 2008.
