Description
ITER is a multinational agreement signed on 21 November 2006 by seven partners: European Union, Japan, China, Russia, South Korea, the United States and India, representing half the world's population. It will create an experimental fusion reactor in southern France aimed at revolutionising global energy use for future generations. 3,000 new job will be created between November 2006 and November 2010 in France.
The ITER project will attempt to combat global warming by offering an alternative to polluting fossil fuels. Climate change and secure energy sources are key priorities worldwide in the decades to come. After 2010, the project is expected to create about 10,000 jobs. The EU is to foot around 50% of the cost to build the experimental reactor, with the six other parties contributing 10% each. The total investment is expected to reach 10 billion euro.
