Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The airline catering company, LSG Sky chefs, announced on 8 November 2006 that they have dismissed 100 employees. The company delivers food to the airlines SAS and Sterling. Dismissals are normal for the season but it is the first time that the number of seasonal dismisssals exceeds 100. Last year 29 people were dismissed. The high number is due to many strikes among the airline personnel last year, which made the company lose a lot of money, and to the outsourcing of the production of sandwiches and hot food. The management and the employees representatives have not reached an agreement to limit the number of dismissals. Although seasonal dismissals, the cancelled jobs will not be offered again.
