Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Delphi, a manufacturer of automobile components, has announced that it is close its factory in Tarazona (Zaragoza) with the loss of 320 jobs. In 2006, the company dismissed approximately 300 employees in the same factory. This restructuring which was phased out in two stages resulted in the loss of 620 jobs in total.
97% of the workforce accepted in December to adhere to the voluntary redundancy scheme proposed by the company. The reason for the dismissals is attributed to the decision of the company to trasfer production activities to Portugal. The closure of the facility in Tarazona started in January. None of the jobs will be relocated to Portugal.
Active labour market policy measures are supported by the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF).
