Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Sanofi-Aventis Group, the worlds 3rd largest pharmaceutical company, announced on 25 October 2006 its decision to cut 504 jobs between December 2006 and December 2007 in France. In a press release the group indicated that the members of the work's council had been informed that 399 salesperson jobs and 105 office jobs would be cut. The reasons given point at the need to redimension the activities of the company in France following a significant reduction in business activity after a hardening of health regulations in the country. Sanofi-Aventis employs 28,000 people in France.
