Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Eaton, the american multinational that manufactures motor, weapon and electronical components, announced on 29 September 2006 that it is going to close its sites in Montornés del Vallés (Spain) and in Manchester (UK).
The company has not announced yet when the dismissals will start to take place but it has assured that both plants will be closed by the end of 2006.
Eaton will also close the plant it has in Saginaw (Michigan, U.S.) at the end of 2008. This is all the result of an internal restructuring of the company.
154 employees will be dismissed in Barcelona, 299 in Manchester and 277 in Michigan.
