Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 4 October 2006 the Swedish/Finnish group Stora Enso announced that the paper factory Berghuizer in Wapenveld will be closed down in 2007. As a consequence, 297 jobs will be lost. Due to the increased energy prices, Berghuizer was not able anymore to run the factory profitable.
According to Stora Enso the closings are part of a program to keep the production in Europe profitable.
