Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Czech leading forestry holding, CE Wood, plans to dismiss up to 2,000 people. It would be one of the largest staff redundancies in the country. According to the company's executive Ivan Doubrava, the main reason is the delay in the tender's procedures organised by the state-owned company Lesy ČR. Now, CE Wood employs 4,200 workers.
It was also reported that up to 4,000 people are expected to leave the forestry industry by the end of 2006 due to this delay. However, employers believe that most of laid off workers could be reemployed or find a job after the official approval of the tenders.
