Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
CEPAP, formerly known as 'Compagnie européenne de papeterie' or 'Papeteries de la Couronne', is a manufacturer of envelopes which employs 504 people in the west of France. It is a subsidiary of Tompla, the Spanish paper packaging group, and announced on 28 September its plans to shed between 129 and 132 of its 504 jobs between November and December 2006 as part of a reorganisation scheme. This plan regards an investment of 2 million euro among other measures aim at tackling the capacity surplus of the European envelope manufacturing, estimated at 25%. Management representatives and trade unions are to meet in the coming days.
