Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The electronic component producer Partnertech has given notice to 70 of its 450 employees at its Åtvidaberg plant in Sweden. 50 of them are manual workers whereas the remaining 20 are administrative employees. Håkan Persson, director of the plant, explained that the company's customers increasingly chose to have their orders manufactured in Poland, where the company runs a plant in Sieradz. Negociations with trade unions are expected to start at the end of September. In 2005, the company cut 45 jobs in Åtvidaberg and decided to relocate the production of printed circuit boards to Poland.
