Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 21 September 2006, the telecommunications provider E-Plus, a subsidiary of Dutch KPN, announced a new restructuring strategy. To increase the number of private customers the third largest service provider on the German market plans to create 350 new jobs within the sales department, by which more E-Plus shops will be opened till the end of 2007. On the other hand, the company plans to outsource most of its administrative services; several dozen of managerial positions and more than 200 administrative positions will be cut. The company plans an overall job cut of 300. Negotiation talks with the workerÂ’s representatives are anticipated.
