Description

BOS Automotive Products, a German-owned car accessories firm, has confirmed that production at its Wrexham factory is to end next month with the loss of 125 jobs. Production is to be switched to factories in Hungary and Romania, although 23 workers will be kept on in Wrexham to run an engineering centre which is involved in design, development and providing customer support. The news also comes in the same week as battery manufacturer Duracell's decision to close its plant in Wrexham with the loss of 109 jobs. Workers at BOS Automotive Products were told in January that the plant faced increased competition from imports. It is thought most of those made redundant have already found other work, with only 11 staff and 17 production workers left at the site. BOS Automotive Products opened on Wrexham's Industrial Estate 10 years ago. The firm makes sun shields, boot covers and other accessories and supplies manufacturers such as Land Rover, Jaguar and Toyota. Senior managers have previously said their products were being undercut by suppliers in eastern Europe and elsewhere, while the loss of Vauxhall Luton and MG Rover also reduced demand for the company's products.
