Description
In September 2006 the construction of a new prison started in Jõhvi in Ida-Virumaa. The scheduled completion time of the facility is 2008. This will be the second prison in Estonia meeting the EU standards and the first one combining jail and prison. There will be 1,000 cells for the prisoners, as well as a school, rooms for social workers, a church, workspaces for prisoners etc. The Ministry of Justice reports that 350 jobs will be created, comprising 251 prison officials and 99 employees working as support staff.
