Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The German manufacturer of pieces of furniture, Werner Welle Group, announced on 13 September 2006 that its factory in Boulay (Moselle), employing 390 people, will cut between 150 and 180 jobs between October 2006 and June 2007. The sales turnover of the factory fell by 15% in the last two years. There is concern among employees because they fear that the factory will close for good.
