Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 23 August 2006 a spokesman of the Radboud University Medical Centre in Nijmegen announced that in 2007, 220 jobs (out of a total of 8,500) will be scrapped, mainly in supporting staff functions like ICT. Forced dismissals are not ruled out.
The main reason for the reorganisation are budget problems, partly due to rising personnel costs. In the past, the government compensated rising costs, but it has ceased to do so.
