Description
The board of directors of the pulp producer company Rottneros has instructed the group's President and CEO to initiate negotiations with the relevant trade unions on the closure of Utansjö Mill, as it was announced on 30 August 2006. A total of 150 people will be affected. The increase in electricity prices and the cost of raw materials has made it impossible for Utansjö Mill to become profitable. The intention is to transfer activities from Utansjö to South Africa. The new mill in South Africa could become operational during 2009, which means that the Utansjö plant will run at its current capacity until the end of 2008. The measure is an expansion of the cost-saving programme that was announced in February this year. At that time, the Group announced its intention to implement a programme to save 100 million SEK with a particular focus on variable costs, including cutting some 70 jobs. The programme has now been expanded to include the entire operation at Utansjö Mill.
