Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Norwegian start-up Norsun and French Photon Power Technologies, specialized in the photovoltaics, announced on 29 August 2006 the creation of a factory called 'Photovoltaïque' in the south of France. In the year 2008 this manufacturing plant of solar panels (polycrystalline silicon) should create 400 new jobs. The population of Saint Auban, where the factory will be built, is very attentive of this project because only a few months ago a factory closed there (see fact sheet for Arkéma). The Ministry for Industry has given the planning permission to the project. The total investment of EUR 250 million has been authorized by the Ministry for Industry because it would wish to create there the future French 'Silicon Valley'.
