Description

Malma of Malbork, one of the two largest pasta producers in Poland, is facing bankruptcy; its collapse would put 230 jobs at risk. Malma’s indebtedness with Bank Pekao S.A. has reached PLN 150 million, and the bank blames this state of affairs on allegedly poor management. Malma’s chairman, meanwhile, maintains that his company’s problems began with the 1998 crisis in the Russian market (which caused a reduction in orders for Malma products) and were aggravated by the rise of interests rates over the years 2001-2003.
