Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Dutch based ICT-group Getronics announced on 2 August 2006 that in the coming six to twelve months 1,000 full-time jobs will be lost, most of them in the US, UK, Spain and France. In the US, 400 jobs will be lost, mainly due to the termination of two large contracts. In the EU-countries mentioned above, the dismissals will be effected in the Managed Services department of Getronics, where profit margins are relatively low. In the Netherlands, where Getronics employs 10,000 employees, no job losses were announced. Getronics reported a loss of 41 million euro over the first half of 2006.
