Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Dell, the American computer group, announced that it is to create 3000 new jobs with the development of a computer assembly plant in Łódź. This new facility will take over the production activities from the existing Dell plant in Limerick (Ireland). This move was motivated by the less expensive labour and production costs in Poland.
According to information released on 3 July 2007, full production was to start in November 2007, when 3000 were expected to be employed at the plant. Up until that time, the company employed 1000. According to more recent information (2008.01.24) the company currently employs 1200.
