Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
After reducing its production workforce by 8,500 in the course of a major restructuring, German car manufacturer DaimlerChrysler announced to cut 6,000 administrative positions worldwide. In Germany, 3,200 jobs in areas like finance, human resources and strategic planning will be shed. The total reductions, which amount to 20 percent of the 30,000 people employed in management, will be carried out by the end of 2008. The German works council and DaimlerChrysler now agreed to exclude direct dismissals till the end of 2007.
