The board of directors of the Port of Brussels has awarded a concession to the company Katoen Natie to redevelop the site of Carcoke, in order to turn it into a new logistics centre. The financing of this operation has a budgeted cost of 68 million euros. Katoen Natie, who will exploit the site, are one of the leaders in European logistics and provide high added value and high technology services. They are present in 22 countries and employ 7500 people. This new logistics centre should create 400 new direct jobs within the next three years and increase the water transport by about 500,000 tonnes per year.
