Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In July 2006, Amonil Slobozia, a chemical fertiliser producer, laid off 231 employees, following the decision made by the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders. During the meeting that took place in July, a new organisational structure containing 650 employees compared to current number of 831, was approved. The new organisational structure came into force on 1 September 2006.
In October 2006, Victor Dobrescu, the general director, announced the intention to close the company on 15 November 2006 and to lay off 600 out of 650 currently employed people.
