Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In 2007, 125 jobs will be lost at Philips Lighting in Oss (Noord-Brabant), where at present 550 people are employed. This was stated by a PhilipsÂ’ spokesman on 6 July 2006. The mass production of lamps will in all probability be transferred to low wage countries (China and Poland). The employees were already familiar with the plans and were informed about the current state of affairs at Philips. Direct dismissals are not being ruled out.
