Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
StorageTek, specialized in the information processing systems of storage of data, announced on 12 July 2006 that the American group Sun Microsystems has decided to cut 80 jobs in the site in Toulouse (south-west of France). The unit employs 110 people and the job cuts are expected to take place between January 2007 and July 2007. The reason given is a significant drop in sales. In 2001 the company agreed with local authorities the creation of 470 jobs and was given EUR 91,000.
