Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Supermarket group Laurus announced on 30 June 2006 that it will close its distribution centre in Renswoude (Utrecht). This results in a loss of 70 jobs. Reason for the closure is the selling of LaurusÂ’ store chain Edah to Sperwer and Sligro. The trade union CNV states that these dismissals are illegal because after the transfer of the distribution centre the employees are part of Sperwer. CNV declared itself prepared to go to court to fight the dismissals.
Laurus also announced a reorganisation in Beilen (Drenthe) which will cost 50 jobs.
