Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Pomona group has decided to close its company FVG (fish-filleting and retail) at Boulogne-sur-Mer. The closure will take place in September and 131 employees will lose their jobs. In December 2005 the company already cut 178 jobs. The reasons given are that the site is feeling the effects of competition from Poland, as well as pressure from Chinese imports on frozen fish market, which have led to a reorganisation of the industry. The site registered a loss of 4m euros in the financial year 2004-2005.
