Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The French government has announced that in 2007 the public administration (almost 1.6 million civil servants) is planning to cut down 15,000 jobs. The Prime minister has sent a letter to all the ministers. The French government would like to reduce the public expenditure and to meet the European pact (with the limits: 3% of public deficit, ...). The trade unions and the left-wing (Labour) parties are opposed to the measure. They denounce a 'degradation' or a 'demolition' of the universal public services, blaming the government for turning to 'accounting' reasons. In schools and in universities 8,700 jobs may disappear. The ministry for the economy would be the second most affected ministry (nearly 3,000 jobs lost).
