Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Magyar Közút Közhasznú Társaság (MK kht.) is a state-owned company responsible for the maintenance, development and conservation of roads and bridges, and for securing their quality and controlling freight traffic. The company was established in 2005 as a result of an attempt to centralise the work of the previous 19 regional units and moving some of their functions to the centre in the capital, and is now undergowing further restructuring. After previous dismissals owing to the restructuring, MK kht. plans to lay off another 300 employees from the administrative divisions at the regional offices. No dismissals are planned among blue-collar workers but here recruiting will only be possible if the number of dismissals among administrative workers exceeds the planned figures. The timeline of the dismissals is not known yet.
