Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Dupont, a multinational of chemical products from USA, has decided to close the centres it has got in Polinyà and Rubí (Cataluña, Spain) between 1st June and 30th September 2006. 246 employees will be dismissed. The closure has been negotiated between the company and the trade unions. They reached an agreement that includes the services of an employment agency for the employees.
Dupont has announced that these closures have been caused by the crisis in the automobile sector, as the centres of Polinyá and Rubí made paints for cars. Nevertheless, the company is going to open new plants in China in the near future. Dupont has got more plants in Asturias (North of Spain), but these ones will not be closed.
