Description
GOM Metal and Machinery Management and Operations(Gestão e Operações Metalomecânicas), whose activity is to produce machiney and equipment, is to manufacture 219 armour-clad vehicles for the Army and the Marine in Barreiro. This decision resulted from an agreement between the Austrian company Steyer-Daimler-Puchand and the Portuguese Ministry of the National Defence (Ministério da Defesa Nacional). In an initial phase 15 workers of this unit will go to the Steyer company in Austria where they will participate in the production of the first armour-clad. The production of the armour-clad vehicles in Portugal will start once this learning-by-doing process is concluded.
100 direct jobs and 500 indirect jobs will be created.
This order to Portugal is supposed to be last until 2010.
