Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Polish furniture manufacturer Goleniowskie Fabryki Mebli (GeFeM) will shut down its factories in Goleniów and Trzebiatów (Western Pomerania) by late July 2006, laying off more than 330 employees. In 2005, GeFeM already dismissed 500 workers. The company is wound down due to slackening demand for pinewood furniture for home assembly. Given that most of GeFeM's output was destined for export, the present difficulties have to be seen also in the context of a strong Polish currency.
