Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
A Northern Ireland textile company is to close its County Tyrone base with the loss of 140 jobs.
The Strabane-based hosiery company, Adria, said on Thursday that harsh trading conditions led to the decision. The company once employed 1,000 people in the area, and also had factories in Londonderry and Newry.
In a statement, the company said it had taken the decision to close "with regret". It will continue to employ 40 people in the area.
The company said it had taken the decision with regret, but that global trading conditions had not improved as they had hoped. The firm has entered a 90-day consultation process with the workforce and said it would play its part with those who are to lose their jobs.
