Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On April 4th, 2006, a furniture manufacturing company, called Van Pelt, located in the province of Limburg, announced a restructuring plan intended to reverse the heavy decline in sales over the last few years. In 2000, the turnover of the company stood at more than 35 million Euro but has since fallen to 21 million Euro in 2005. Half of company workforce will lose their jobs (90 jobs out of 184).
