Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Some 250 jobs are to be cut by a west London council over claims of a £5.3m shortfall in asylum seeker grants. Hillingdon borough, home to Heathrow airport, has a statutory duty to care for 900 unaccompanied young people. The council said it wants a judicial review over an unexpected change to the grants system in January that left them drastically short-changed. The DfES said almost twice the number of authorities and a 'far greater number' of young people have benefited. The job cuts will be made in education, social services and housing departments as well as the chief executive's office.
