Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
According to the Lithuanian Labout Exchange (the country's employment office associated to the Ministry of Social Security and Labour), Klaipedos mediena, one of the largest manufacturers of wood and wooden products in Lithuania, intends to dismiss 600 employees. The company is undergoing internal restructuring, trying to improve on its low technological capacity (old machinery and buildings). The Local Labour Exchange has started a support programme and more than 300 of the dismissed workers will find work in other companies in Klaipeda.
