Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Under its privatisation agreement, Mittal Steel Poland, the largest producer of steel in Poland, is obliged to reduce employment from presently 12800 to 10400 employees, in line with recommendations by the European Commission.
However, in the first of a series of collective agreements, the Executive Board of Mittal Steel Poland, now guarantees to maintain present employment levels in its subsidiaries until 2009. Once signed by all parties concerned, the agreement will cover 7500 employees of Mittal subsidiaries. Mittal Steel Poland presently employs 12800 people, with a futher 7600 working for its various subsidiaries. Dismissals will commence in the beginning of 2009.
