Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Favini, a paper manufacturing company in the south-eastern part of the Netherlands, announced on 12 March 2006 that it intends to reduce the number of employees by 140, from 320 to 180. Favini has been losing money on its activities for several years. One of the three production lines will be closed and the number of shifts will be decreased from four to three.
The unions think that the measures taken are long overdue.
