Description
Starch manufacturing company Avebe announced on 18 March 2006 that 200 out of 1300 jobs will be lost. Avebe is a co-operative society of farmers in the North eastern part of the Netherlands faces financial problems. These are partly due to a long strike in September 2005, which led farmers to pull back their financial assets, leaving Avebe with liquidity shortage. The restructuring will consist of merging the now four independent subsidaries into two, while at the same time reducing the number of management layers. Especially lower management jobs will be hit. The new structure will be in place as of 1 April 2006. The central works council has approved the restructuring plans
