Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Melexis designs and develops automotive electronics systems. The growth in the electronic content of automobiles has led to a 15% increase in the Melexis production, a growth of 10% to 15% is expected for 2006. The company, based in Sofia since 1994 has developed some of its products, such as infrared sensors, mainly for the American and Japanese markets. Melexis has 180 employees in Bulgaria and the intentions are to develop and increase both the production and the staff. Our plan is to create at least 200 new working places by 2008. 'We are building a new factory here for about 4 to €5 million, and our investments for the coming three years are planned to reach € 20 million. We are working very well with the Technical University in Sofia and our staff is coming mainly from there', said the executive director.
