Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The manufacturer of porcelain insulators, NGK Europe, announced on 31 January 2006 the closure of its plant in Baudour. 115 workers and 31 employees are to lose their job in the process. Following a fall of the demand on the European market, only suppliers offering low costs products on the market are to maintain a market share. Many clients of the company have delocalised their production to China and India, and thus use substrates produced locally.
Workers were expecting some bad news, but didnt thing the restructuring would be concluded with a closure.
