Description
More than 100 jobs are to go at Devon County Council as part of plans to meet a £15 million budget shortfall. The council said it was seeking the cuts through voluntary redundancies. A council spokesman said the authority hoped most of the cuts would be in management and supervisory positions, and said it was carrying out a big programme of efficiency savings. But the council admitted it would be a fine balance between achieving the savings and protecting front-line services. Unions said they were told redundancy notices would be issued in May 2006 but were worried more posts may have to go. They have not ruled out industrial action.
