Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The ADIF Consortium is one of the two companies in which the government divided the Renfe Consortium after the liberalization of the railways sector. On 28 January 2006, ADIF presented a job reduction plan concerning the loss of 2,500 jobs. Management announced that 2,100 of the affected employees will be offered early retirement. Negotiations are to be held with labour representatives within the next 15 days in order to reach an agreement. The cuts are expected to take place by the end of 2009. In April 2007 ADIF announced that it had received public funds for the construction and modernisation of railways up until 2010. The contract with the public administration will involve an Employment Restructuring Programme in order to help the company obtain profits from 2008 onwards. As announced in 2006, this plan will affect 2,500 employees by the end of 2010.
