Description
Computer maker Sanmina-SCI has announced plans to close its manufacturing site in Greenock. Almost 300 people will lose their jobs as a result of the move. About 650 workers were transferred from IBM to American-owned Sanmina three years ago in an outsourcing deal. Since then, the numbers employed at the plant have fallen gradually as Sanmina moved more of its server manufacturing work to Hungary. Sanmina was one of the firms which picked up the work when IBM decided to move out of the increasingly cut throat business of manufacturing.
