Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Port of Rotterdam is to cut between 10-15% of jobs between 2006 and 2010 in order to sustain price competitiveness with other cargo harbours. Havenbedrijf Rotterdam had 1,330 employees in 2004. The company will thus cut between 150 and 200 jobs in the period from 2006 to 2010. The cutbacks should also free up money for the expansion of the harbour, and the financial ability to pay dividends to the City of Rotterdam and the government from 2006, the port's major shareholders. The Port of Rotterdam expects to achieve most of its growth for the period 2006 to 2010 in its containers, distribution, chemical, oil products, independent storage, and coal shipment market sectors.
