Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
An agreement was reached between Marzotto, an important Italian producer of textiles, and the unions on 225 redundancies affecting the two manufacturing plants of Schio and Praia a Mare, as well as the office activities of Mongrando. The operations at Praia a Mare and Mongrando had already been discontinued in April 2004 and the agreement confirms the closures and make the redundancies effective. The agreement refers to the new business plan which envisages the transfer of a significant amount of production to the group's plant of Nova Mosilana, in the Czech Republic, with a view to reduce costs and improve competitiveness. The group employs some 3,600 workers worldwide (Italy, Czech Republic, Lithuania and Tunisia), of which around 2,100 in Italy.
