Description
Up to 200 jobs are to be lost as council bosses in Newcastle struggle to make budget savings of more than £8 million. Newcastle City Council said it intended to keep a planned Council Tax rise to a below-inflation 2% in 2006. But a spokesman said the plans could result in up to 200 posts being lost in as yet unspecified departments. The council said it had plans to reduce spending by about £8 million, including savings of £3 million on travel, supplies, printing, insurance costs and office accommodation.
