Description

Myllykoski Continental, ranking among the leading international manufacturers of newsprint and magazine papers, chose the Czech Republic as a place to build a new paper mill with a total investment of CZK 13.5 billion. The new site in Opatovice was to create about 250 new jobs directly and some 1,000 jobs were expected to be created indirectly. The plant with annual production capacity of roughly 400,000 tonnes would have become one of the largest in the Central Europe. The production was to be launched by spring 2007. However, on 31 Octobre 2006, the Finish major paper industry group decided to move its proposed business project from the Czech Republic to Germany (Plattling) due to the delay in getting permission from Czech authorities and protests submitted by ecologists.
